Adropin: a new regulatory peptide in cardiovascular endocrinology
Blood borne markers in the cardiological setting span from atherosclerotic risk factors to diagnosis of myocardial infarction and heart failure. In fact, there are now recommended plasma markers throughout the cardiovascular disease spectrum, where the lipid profile, cardiac troponins, and natriuretic peptides are particularly helpful in the clinical stratification of cardiovascular diseases. Other important aspects in cardiology are obesity, insulin resistance and gut- and fat-derived regulatory peptides involved in energy homeostasis.
