In order to cope with the future challenges of health care sectors all around the world, there is a need for monitoring and improving efficiency at the hospitals. This study presents a framework capable of measuring the performance of supporting logistical flows at hospitals as well as assessing the potential of implementing new technology. The framework has been constructed as a holistic tool both addressing the performance of the overall flow as well as that of the individual processes. The framework has been developed and tested in both Denmark and Japan securing that the framework is applicable to health care institutions with very different backgrounds. Additionally the differences in-between the Danish and Japanese health care system have been identified as part of the process of developing and testing the framework. The study showed that there are big differences in-between the health care systems, which has a large affect the use of technology.
