An introduction to Paul Ricoeur's theory of metaphor and narrative and a discussion of its relevance for a hermeneutic understanding of music-assisted imagery in The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (BMGIM)
In this article I will take a closer look at the French hermeneutic philosopher Paul Ricoeur's theories of metaphor and narrative, and their relevance for a deeper understanding of the BMGIM process, especially the core element of the imagery. After an introduction to and discussion of basic ideas in Ricoeur's hermeneutic theory I will use the concepts of metaphor, narrative and mimesis in an analysis of material from one selected BMGIM session.
