In this article the use of historical consciousnes is beeing discussed in relation to the teaching of history in the primary school. The point is that the capacity of the children to do abstract thinking is a necessary condition for being able to understand the use of historical consciousness. However in the upper secondary schools, the students have this capacity and here the concept can be used, as it is in Denmark.
