The chapter explores the concept of the competent child and how theorizing and conceptualizing children and childhood has shifted during the last 15 years. Recent research has focused mainly on three perspectives: 1) how children seem to have changed, 2) how the conditions of modern childhood have undergone ruptures and developments, and 3) how the understanding of and approach to children have changed.
