Using Field Theory as a framework for a sociology of journalism culture
This paper presents the field theory of Pierre Bourdieu, discusses how the framework can be used for studying journalism culture, and illustrates the use in a case study of journalism education in Denmark. The first section makes a first attempt to define Journalism Culture as a logic of practice. The second section, Journalism Culture: Field and Capitals, discuss Journalism Culture in light of cultural production, power and social differentiation and the methodological implications for research. The third section presents the empirical case study of Danish journalism education using the concepts of field, capital and habitus to identity craft as a strong capital in the field and conservation as a dominant logic.
