Astrorhiza limicola has a different way of life on the west coast of Sweden than reported from the south coast of England. It was found to be sedentary, sitting in a vertical position and feeding primarily by filtering phytoplankton and occasionally feeding on detritus. It can scavenge but was never found to be an active predator lying flat or crawling on the bottom as previously reported. It was found to be motile only under unfavourable conditions, e.g. in aquaria without natural types of sediment. Some epizoans of Astrorhiza are noted.
