Readiness for information methods like communities, simulation and virtual worlds in new product development (NPD) is discussed based on analysis of NPD strategy, market orientation and competitive pressure as generic antecedents of exploitative and explorative information search. The paper forwards evolvement as new information competence to leverage holistic information methods, and finds that current information competences of decision-makers are not ready to leverage new information methods enable by technology. Data is collected with an agent-based simulation platform and logistic regression applied for the determination of information acquisition likelihood.
