Companies currently aim to develop their competence profile through continuous develop-ment processes. Due to the limited resources of SME´s they are particularly dependent on being able to exploit the possibilities in the environment in order to maintain competitiveness. This paper presents a framework, which seeks to describe, how the development of compe-tences takes place through an interaction between market demands and supplier contributions. The purpose of the paper is to give an understanding of and an insight in this process. The paper is based on a single case study with an SME in a low-technological production in-dustry.
