The VirtuelGalathea3 project funded by Tips- og Lottopuljen at Danish Ministry of Education is planned for the period July 2007 to June 2011. The project aims to provide Danish secondary schools with educational material based on the science projects from the Galathea 3 global expeditions that took place from 11th August 2006 to 24th April 2007. The educational material will be published at www.virtuelgalathea3.dk opening April 2008. The educational content encompasses the subjects geography, geology, biology, chemistry and history. Many projects are multi-disciplinary. The material is based the scientific work of around 50 science projects involved in Galathea 3 both onboard Vædderen and on land. In addition, around 40 educational projects based on satellite images from the Galathea 3 expedition from the Satellite Eye for Galathea 3 project are included, some of those are also based on the Galathea 3 research projects. The educational material is being developed jointly by scientists and skilled teachers. An educational film is in preparation as well as 50 short films (around 2 minutes each). The project is coordinated by senior scientist Charlotte Bay Hasager, Risø DTU.
