A Model for the Temperature Distribution and Two-Phase Flow in a Fuel Element under Loca Conditions
CORECOOL (Convection and Radiation Emergency Cooling) is a model for the two-phase flow and heat transfer in a fuel element during the core heatup following a loss-of-coolant accident. The models in CORECOOL consist of a fuel rod model and a model for the two-phase flow based on separate descriptions of the phases and thermodynamic non-equilibrium. The heat transfer consists of convection sputtering and radiation heat transfer. The applicability of CORECOOL has been demonstrated by comparison with full-scale emergency cooling experiments. The agreement with the measured data is very good.
